The sun’s glare is a real problem in many offices, often all year round. No matter whether you are fending off the hot summer sunshine or stark winter glare from a low lying sun, the light streaming through exposed windows can cause irritation and discomfort.

Focusing on TV or computer screens becomes difficult and causes strain when trying to fight off the sun’s glare. Even reading and chatting with colleagues can be uncomfortable if the sun’s glare is too bright.

Employees that spend copious amounts of time in front of a computer are at risk of strain and lowered productivity.

Between 50% and 90% of people whose jobs include computer work will suffer Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). This includes blurred vision, double vision, dry or red eyes, burning eyes, neck ache and backache. This can severely affect the quality of your work and hamper productivity. Add glare to this list of uncomfortable symptoms and you will have a severely unhappy workforce.

Anti-glare film is an excellent option for warding off glare.

The best way to reduce uncomfortable glare in the workspace is through using anti-glare film. Anti-glare film is usually frosted film, as it allows for maximum natural light to penetrate through into the interior while still warding off glare and UV rays. In fact, frosted anti-glare film, as offered by Window Art, has a number of different benefits.

The benefits of frosted anti-glare film are the following:

  • A reduction in eyestrain and tension, as a result of the bright glare from the sun being thwarted.
  • The enjoyment of natural light illuminating the interior office space while the sun’s glare is warded off.
  • The frosted anti-glare film saves energy as it slowly transfers the heat through the glass, keeping the interior cooler.
  • Frosted anti-glare film filters out 95% of harmful UV rays, protecting your staff and your furniture.
  • You can choose the level of opacity you would prefer and create a design, adding style or branding to your office space.

You can also try the following tips:

  • Rearrange your desk by placing it in a position that is slightly below eye level and around 70cm from your face. This prevents unnecessary stretching and straining.
  • Blink often, regularly give your eyes a break from the screen by looking away and use lubricating eye drops to assists with keeping your eyes comfortable.
  • Make sure the settings on your computer are optimal. For instance, check that the brightness, contrast and font size are comfortable for your eyes.
